Can the Virulite be used at any stage
in a cold sore attack?
Yes, the Virulite can be used at any stage in a cold sore
attack, even once the blisters have arrived.
I cannot see any light being emitted
from the treatment window?
The infra-red light is invisible to the human eye. The yellow
light flashing indicates that the unit is working.
Does the Virulite help relieve pain?
In some individuals, the cold sores are accompanied by severe
pain. Research has demonstrated that in the majority of these
individuals, almost complete pain relief occurs within the
period of the 3-minute treatment cycle.
What about the site of the cold
sore?
The invisible light that the Virulite device uses penetrates
the skin relatively easily, thus the virulite can treat cold
sores in the nose, inside the lip and on the face as effectively
as cold sores that are present on the outside of the lips.
How can light heal a cold sore?
Tests have demonstrated that light with a specific wavelength
in the non-visible spectrum acts as a catalyst, which enhances
the local immune response, allowing the body to heal itself
rapidly.
Why can't standing in the sunlight
heal a cold sore?
Sunlight contains UV (ultraviolet light), which actually triggers
cold sores to occur, so sunlight can make a cold sore worse.
The level of this specific wavelength in sunlight in the UK
is insufficient to be effective (even in summer).
When and how many times can a cold
sore be treated?
The cold sore should be treated as soon as it becomes apparent
(blister or tingling stage) and then treated again 12 hours
later. In the majority of people this is an adequate treatment,
however in a small percentage of people the virus takes a
little longer to travel down the nerve to the skin. The therapy
is only effective in the presence of the virus, thus if the
cold sore appears to progress after the second treatment,
it is best to treat four more times a day for 2 days. There
is no limit to how many times a cold sore can be treated.
Is it safe to use on children?
Yes, the Virulite is safe to use on children, the time of
application remains unchanged at 3 minutes.
Are there any side-effects?
No side-effects or complications have been documented.
